Poised for Success, August 2014
On Tuesday, August 12th, a big black bus pulled up in front of WHW with 30 soon-to-be ninth graders participating in UC Irvine’s Financial Literacy Summer Residential Program, a one-week, on-campus program dedicated to helping underserved 8th and 9th grade students by teaching life skills in money management. This is the third year that WHW has partnered with the program to provide the teens with professional clothing, workshops on professionalism and etiquette. Community volunteers assisted the youth in selecting their suits, shirts and shoes, learning to tie their very first tie and how to properly shake a hand. Then the group was shuttled to the OC Rescue Mission for an interactive meal where each course was accompanied by an explanation of proper etiquette and manners. It was an inspiring and fun event where boys could be boys who were learning to be poised for success.
