Floyd Collins Grave

"The Greatest Cave Explorer Ever Known", the story of Floyd Collins is important in the establishment of Mammoth Cave National Park . The unfortunate explorer found fame in death. His body, extracted from Sand Cave two months after his death, suffered the ignominy of becoming a tourist attraction at his family's former cave, of being robbed, and finally recovered in a ditch minus a leg. He was finally buried at Mammoth Cave Baptist Church, where people continue to pay their respects with pennies, flowers, chewing gum, and occasionally candles and rope.
