Laika Studios Poster

In 1990, Will Vinton Studios, known for its stop-motion films and commercials (most notably the California raisins advertisements), brought in outside investors, including Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, Inc. Eventually Phil Knight took control of the company, which became renamed Laika, and brought in his son, Travis Knight, a former rapper named "Chilly Tee" who produced a mediocre album named "Get off Mine" . Travis Knight became CEO of the board, and is now regarded as one of the best stop-motion animators in the industry. Laika Studios is known for producing four beautiful films, Caroline (2009), ParaNorman (2012), the Boxtrolls (2014) and Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), all of which are very well regarded but don't seem to make much money (which also seems typically Portlander). Laika Studios is located in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro.
