The Lone Cypress is a famed Monterey Cypress that juts out on a lone hill lock overlooking the Pacific. It is one of the most photographed trees in the World, and is a centerpiece of the famed 17-mile Drive. The Monterey Cypress is at least 250 years old. Years of visitors have badly eroded the hill lock and damaged the tree, which is now held up by cables and walls. The Lone Cypress is the trademark of the Pebble Beach Company since 1919, though in recent years it has attempted to apply trademark protection on the tree itself (ie prevent all commercial usage of the Lone Cypress besides itself).
