Balboa Island Ferry

Two large communities in Newport Beach are the artificial island known as Balboa Island, located inside Newport Harbor and the Balboa Peninsula separating the harbor form the Pacific. Besides a short bridge connected to the mainland, the only way to and from Balboa Island is a private ferry connecting the island to the historic Fun Zone Area of the Balboa Peninsula only 304m away. Three three-car ferries are operated by the Beek family, starting with Joseph Beek, a founding father of Newport Beach, in 1919. The trip costs $2 and takes about 5 minutes.

In the background is the historic Balboa Fun Zone, established in 1936 and boasting a Eli Ferris Wheel, bumper cars, Drummer Boy, and the Scary Dark Ride. The 1998 song "Hurry Go Round" from the Japanese musician hide was filmed here, as was the 2013 rapper Childish Gambino song 3005.
