Jinshanling Great Wall (18Aug2011)

    Newer Older

We stayed overnight at Jinshanling Hotel and started earlly in the morning after a good breakfast. We took the cable car up and first went towards the Simatai section, which is older and more rough and crumbly at places. The weather was fantastic, a bit hot, but better than the rain we had the day before! After a few hours walking towards Simatai we hit a very steep climb and the steps were having loose stones. Looking further it seemed to only be getting more challenging and as the wall at the Simatai section was under renovation, we decided this was a good point to turn back to where we came from. We reached back to the starting point and then walked towards Gubeikou section. That was a much easier walk as the wall is about 100 - 200 years newer and in that era they used broader bricks/stones that were more even. We walked a few watchtowers and then headed back to the cable car to be in time for the last one back (which is around 5pm).
