Lake Wappapello, Missouri 40

Since we had no luck at flatbanks, we decided to go to Lake Wappapello. We saw turkey vultures and geese. The museum was closed, but had some pretty flowers.

The lake had overtopped the spillway and had created a scour this spring...that was interesting (and impressive.)

When we settled down to fishing, we got lots of bites! Jerry caught 2 small channel cats and a flathead catfish and I caught a largemouth bass. The amount of litter in the area and the huge, bloated, dead, stinky gar diminished our fun, though. On the other hand, we had a fishing buddy! A great blue heron kept us company and watched us fish while he was catching far more fish than we were. I think he was laughing at us as we left because he caught more fish than we did!
