David Smith, a retired executive from the hotel management industry can be found working at the forge and providing explanations and entertainment to visitors. David was a wealth of knowledge and obviously enjoys his time at the village. The forge here is a style I had not seen before in that it was a wooden bench with a fire brick top surface where the bed of coals burned smokily away. I had only ever seen forges that were constructed of brick from the found up and the sight of a coal fire in top of a wooden bench threw me until he explained how it was constructed. Here he is seen leaning on the pole that activates the bellows.
I should mention that Mrs. Smith was the receptionist when we entered the museum. You could not meet two more personable individuals.
