20120416_F0001: Enigma coding wheels

- I had an opportunity to see a German Enigma cipher machine in action and took the opportunity to grab few photos of it. The Enigma machine, used by the Germans during WWII is a so called polyaphabetic substitution cipher machine, which produces a cipher text by substituting each alphabet to a different one by a combination of different mechanical and electrical methods. One of the scrambling mechanisms used by Enigma is via the coding wheels, in this case three different wheels seen in this photo that cross wires the electrical paths in the machine differently each time a letter is pressed.
