Virtual Get Growing & the Northern Slopes - Friday, 22nd May, 2020
This St George Strollers Walking for Health walk was planned as part of Bristol Walk Fest with the intention of drawing attention to June's Get Growing celebration. Get Growing is a city-wide event in June where Bristol's secret fruit and veg gardens open their gates to visitors and volunteers to encourage the city to Get Growing too.

Sadly Covid-19 restrictions meant that no walks were run for Bristol Walk Fest but the organisers asked walk leaders to put together virtual walks that could be published on social media on the day the walk was planned.

This is our virtual walk, made up of photos taken on our reccie in January 2020, recent photos taken by walk leader Cathy and Ramona of Bristol Food Network plus a mixture of photos from St George Strollers walks on Thursday 25th May 2017, 9th October, 2013 and 10th July. 2012. This virtual walk was put together by walk leader, Susan.

The plan was to meet at the Cenotaph in the centre of Bristol, then cross the road to the no. 2 bus stop at St Mary on the Quay and take the bus to the Broadwalk shopping centre in Knowle. The shopping, in normal times, is a useful stopping point for public toilets before starting a walk.

The walk would have ended at Knowle West Health Park at the Healthy Living Centre. www.knowlewesthealthpark.co.uk/ The staff there had kindly offered to provide hot drinks for us. It is also one of the locations can supports the Community Toilets Scheme. www.bristol.gov.uk/toilets

After our drinks the plan was to catch the 90 bus from the Cavan Walk bus stop on Glyn Vale. At the time of the walk there was only a temporary bus stop in that location.

We hope you enjoy the virtual walk.
