Time Line -- 1959 - 2008
The last fifty years have been an era of unprecedented growth in Westerville as the community moved from village to town status in 1961. Moving from a population of 7,011 to 11,500 in the decade of the 1960s and experiencing a 26 percent growth rate in the early 1970s, the city government and school system had to adapt to rapidly changing demands for services. New houses, new schools, new roads, and new businesses defined this era in Westerville history. As we enter the next 50 years and celebrate another milestone birthday in 2008, Westerville has been named one of the top places to live in the country by Money magazine.
