2012 Lynda Shaw Memorial Distinguished Lecture
Catherine Mavriplis delivered the 2012 Lynda Shaw Memorial Distinguished Lecture on “Advancing Women in Science and Engineering: What Can Be Done?” at Western Engineering on March 22. Mavriplis is an associate professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa and NSERC / Pratt & Whitney Canada Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the Ontario Region.

Lynda Shaw was a graduate of Centennial Secondary School in Brampton where she received an Ontario Scholarship and was the winner of the school’s proficiency award in Mathematics and Accounting. Shaw entered Western with an admission scholarship in 1987 and served for two years on the Mechanical Engineering Club Executive.
