Haynie-Cook House: Austin,1899

Newer Older

The house at 1108 Colorado Street where my great-great grandparents, Joe Lee and Amaryllis Jameson, lived—for a short time at least. Why don't I live there now?

(Well, for starters, the house was torn down in 1953.)

I'm trying to think of a clever way to link the photograph to a slogan popular in Austin nowadays: "Keep Austin Weird!"

Our-great-great grandfather was Revenue Agent for the Tax Commission of Texas and probably got to live in that house because he was a crony of the governor (who lived in the mansion two doors down.) Alas, I think that makes them profoundly not weird.
