Mottled Duck in Texas

(Second of two) This Mottled Duck, Anas fulvigula, was lifting off the water to grab seeds at the top of a stalk. Several of these ducks were feeding near the observation deck at the Estero Llano Grande State Park. I had first seen some dark forms coming up and quickly going down in the marsh grasses in the distance and couldn't figure out what was going on. When several of the birds came closer, it became clear. There are two Northern Shovelers in the photo as well.
