Hanging out on the abandoned West Side Highway looking out at the completed Battery Park City landfill, the Hudson River and the classic Jersey City skyline with the Colgate Plant, Harborside Terminal and the H&M railroad powerhouse. New York. April 1978
The West Side Highway always provided a great elevated view of both Manhattan and New Jersey. Even though battered and rusting, in a strange kind of way I really miss it.
Although the highway was finally torn down in the early 1980s, it would have been quite unique if the city preserved the lower section of the roadway as a linear park similar to the restoration of the "Highline" elevated train tracks.
