Caucus denounces union leadership following strike: 1978
The Metro Committee Against Racism was an ongoing caucus within Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 organized by the Progressive Labor Party from approximately 1978 until approximately 1996.
It criticized union leadership, ran candidates for union office and advocated for social and economic justice and against U.S. imperialism.
Several of its leaders were elected to union office including Gary Young who served as a shop steward and executive board member from the maintenance department in the 1980s and Mike Golash who served as shop steward and executive board member from Northern Division, secretary-treasurer and president.
Metro C.A.R. published periodic newsletters and flyers. We currently have one issue of the newsletter Metro C.A.R. that was published after the 1978 7-day wildcat strike.
