Slave Cabins, Boone Hall, Mount Pleasant, SC

Built between 1790 and 1810, the slave cabins at Boone Hall are unique for being constructed of brick made from clay deposits on the site, rather than the more typically seen wood frame construction. After the Civil War, the houses remained in use as housing for sharecroppers who lived on the property until the 1940s. They are significant to the history of the Gullah-Geechee people, whom hold many ties to the site.
