I know, right? I have another book that he illustrated (besides Space Alphabet) and the artwork is not as strong and enticing as this one.

This drawing is amazing and makes me feel extremely lazy! Just beautiful. It's one of those images that feels perfect. Those figures, that boat, those buildings! Thanks for posting!

Wonderful. Having just finished a bunch o' b/w illustrations, this palette is extra impressive for me right now.

That mixed perspective is giving me a contact high.

Anyone know how I could get a print of this picture? As in, to frame and put on the wall.
  • Ward Jenkins 4y

You could buy the actual book (it's not too much, really) and then cut it out and frame it. Or, if you don't want to ruin the book, you can scan it and print it out yourself.

"Or, if you don't want to ruin the book, you can scan it and print it out yourself."

Good idea - here's another option - see if you can find it at a nearby library. That way you can do a high-res scan without even buying it! Using worldcat.org, I was able to find this book at 9 libraries within 10 miles of me here in Chicago.

I was actually thinking more upmarket, a large print. But, let's face it, that's not going to happen. I bought the book. Hopefully the pics will be good. I plan to scan, clean-up, print and frame. I like it *that* much.

That's cool - I just know that with illustrations like this, unless the artist is still alive and has an active store where you can purchase prints of theirs, it's pretty much a nada when it comes to prints. There's not much on the artist, Peter P. Plasencia, anyway, and I wouldn't have felt right to give out high-res versions of these illustrations without any sort of permission.
  • Brad Cornelius 4y

Nah, you're certainly both going about this the right way. Doing the print for yourself is keeping with the spirit of enjoying Peter's work (he's like that, I'm sure) and Ward, your sharing it at this size only serves to inspire fellow artists... and whet our appetites to add to our own collections. Win win, I'd say.

Awesome. Glad you feel that way, bredlo!
