Buenos Aires - San Telmo: Antigua Tasca de Cuchilleros
Antigua Tasca de Cuchilleros (Old Knifeman's Tavern), at Carlos Calvo 319, was built at the turn of the 19th century and is known for a tragic love story. Margarita was the daughter of sergeant Oliden, a member of the Mazorca, an organization that supported Governor Juan Manuel de Rosas. Her father wished her to marry Ciriaco Cuitino, then chief of the organization. But Margarita had fallen in love with popular singer Juan Cruz Cuello, and disobeying her father's wishes, they ran away together. Cuitino, the slighted fiancé chased them up to the town of Lujan and wounded Margarita, who would then die in this house.
