Buenos Aires - San Telmo: La Poesía
La Poesía, located in a turn of the 19th century building at Chile 502, was originally founded in 1982 by journalist and poet Rubén Derlis. It quickly became a place for San Telmo artists and thinkers to congregate following the end of Argentina's military dictatorship. It closed in 1988, replaced by a series of failed business, until it was reopened at the end of 2008 by Pablo Durán and Laura Carro, the husband and wife team who run El Federal. The wooden tables have embedded brass plaques noting the literary heavy weights whom wrote or held court at these tables in the 1980's.
Uruguayan poet and lyricist, Horacio Ferrer, mostly known for his work with Astor Piazolla, famously met Lucía Micheli, who would become his wife here--an meeting immortalized in his 1992 song, Lulú.
