Brooklyn: Pok Pok NY - Hoi Thawt
The Hoi Thawt, an aahaan kap khaoo (food eaten with rice as part of a shared meal) is a crispy broken crepe with steamed fresh PEI mussels, eggs, garlic chives and bean sprouts, served with Shark Sri Racha sauce. The Hoi Thwat is a Thai street vendor's specialty, especially popular in night markets.
Pok Pok NY, located at 127 Columbia Street, opened on April 18, 2012, bringing chef-owner Andy Ricker's cultishly loved Northern Thai cuisine from Portland to New York. Ricker, the 2011 James Beard award for Best Chef Northwest, first opened Pok Pok in 2005 and expanded to New York's Lower East Side earlier in 2012 with Pok Pok Wing, his first non-Portland based location. His creations at Pok Pok lean heavily on the street food culture of northern Thailand that he observed throughout his extensive travels.
