Nara - Naramachi: Hiraso - Chagayu

Chagayu (茶粥 ), a tea porridge or tea gruel, is a specialty of the Nara region. The simple dish is made with rice, water and tea such as Hojicha or roast tea.

 

Hiraso, at 30-1 Imamikadocho, is known for their kakinoha-zushi (sushi wrapped in persimmon leaf) and kakisuga (a seasonal delicacy of dried persimmon, dusted with kuzu or arrowroot powder and cooked tempura style).
