NYC - Greenwich Village: Murray's Cheese and Specialty Food Shop
Murray's Cheese and Specialty Food Shop, at 254 Bleecker Street, dates back to 1940 when Murray Greenberg, a Jewish Spanish civil war veteran and communist, opened a wholesale butter and egg shop on the corner of Cornelia and Bleecker Street. In the 70's he sold the shop to his clerk Louis Tudda, an Italian immigrant from Calabria. In 2004, they moved uptown to a larger space on Bleecker Street. Today, they serve over 400 varities, many of which are aged in their subterranean cheese aging cave.
