NYC - FiDi: Ground Zero Cross

Laborer Frank Silecchia found this cross-like crossbeam that had fallen from the collapsing North Tower, among many others, amidst the rubble of 6 World Trade Center--an area dubbed "God's House"--just two days after the attacks of 9-11. At 20-feet tall, it was the most significant and affixed by ironworkers to a permanent base before being placed on the high walkway over West Street. Blessed by Father Brian Jordan, a Franciscan friar, on October 4, 2001, it was temporarily relocated near St. Peter's Church on October 5, 2006 and is slated to return to the WTC Museum when it opens.
