Wingate sunset above the Dirty Devil

Preparing to camp at Burr Point. Just below the rim were some small benches that provided shelter from the stiff breeze. The largest cliffs are composed of Wingate Sandstone. Introductory story follows...

After an early morning breakfast at Shari's in Laramie, my wife and I parted ways; I to the Dirty Devil River in Utah, and she to visit family in Spokane.

At 4pm I met a complete stranger at the "Hole in the Mountain Gas and Grocery" in the bustling metropolis of Hanksville Utah. I had arranged to meet with this fellow through a packrafting website. After buying a soda and some water, I loaded his gear into my car and we headed for Burr Point, about 15 miles south of town and another 11 miles of graded dirt road.
