Wonka Gobstopper Heart Breakers - 2004
I think this box is gorgeous! Not particularly my favorite colors or anything, but it's sure nice to look at.
This box of Wonka Everlasting Gobstopper Heart Breakers is from 2004. The production code tells me it was printed in late 2004, so would have been out for the 2005 Valentine's Day.
Wonka's Gobstoppers have been around since the late '70s, although they were mentioned several years earlier in the 1971 movie. They've done some fun holiday variations over the years, such as Christmas Gobstoppers, Gobstopper Snowballs, Gobstopper Egg Breakers and these Gobstopper Heart Breakers.
I don't have the full history on these, but I know that Heart Breakers at least date to the 1980s. I've heard that these are not necessarily made every year, though. This box was later changed a bit around 2007 to make it English-Spanish bilingual.
The Gobstopper mascot was retired in 2009, sadly, after about a 33 year run. Since then, I have seen Heart Breakers in larger bags only, and without the mascot. I think these standard sized boxes were discontinued in 2008.
Somehow I missed out on saving a box of these when they were in stores, but fortunately acquired this one a few months ago from a guy who had a Gobstopper sweet tooth. :-)
