Wonka Bottle Caps - 1985

From a recent find that I'm starting to document, this is a very special piece that I've wanted for a while -- a Willy Wonka Bottle Caps package from 1985!

Bottle Caps and I go way back. I can remember getting them as a kid as early as 1974-1975 from a little store where we lived at that time.

I believe Bottle Caps were introduced in the early '70s. They were made by the Breaker Confections unit of Sunline Brands. Sunline bought the Wonka candy brands in the '70s and formed a new parent company called Sunmark. Then Sunline, Wonka and Breaker became divisions under the newly created Sunmark Inc.

Bottle Caps remained under the Breaker name at least until 1977. Somewhere between 1978-1982 they were re-branded as Willy Wonka's Bottle Caps. I tend to believe that was in the early '80s.

Sorry to ramble...

This particular wrapper has a 1982 copyright date which probably ushered in the design change or flavor change. On back is a mail-away offer for candy-scented pens which expired in June 1986. Promotions typically ran 3 to 12 months for other products, so it seems likely this came from 1985.

Also of note is the cherry flavor. The line-up here has cola, root beer, grape, orange and cherry, which is also the current line-up. I believe cherry was the last flavor added. There was also a lemon-lime that I remember in the older packs as a kid.
