2018 Summer Global Leadership Seminar

by World Affairs Council of Philadelphia

The 2018 Summer Global Leadership Seminar, held on July 9 - July 13, 2018, is an annual summer institute open to all rising high school sophomores, juniors, seniors and recently graduated seniors. The 2018 program explored the rise of political Islam and how the diverse array of political agendas, goals, and activities of Islamist groups are reshaping the Middle East—and how these changes are reverberating around the world.

Through guest lectures and interactive workshops, students examined Islam, politics, and change in the Middle East. Additionally, students took part in a half-day simulation during which they will role-play the decision-making processes of foreign policy leaders. The Seminar’s fifth-day field trip to
Washington, D.C. offered students the exciting opportunity to meet with and hear from diplomats as well as foreign policy officials at the Brookings Institution and the Tunisian Embassy.
