Travel with the World Affairs Council: Celtic Lands Cruise 2011

by World Affairs Council of Philadelphia

Ten Council travelers, including Council staff member Mari Steed, traveled aboard the deluxe M.S. Le Boreal to the wide breadth of the Celtic Lands, including Normandy, France; Dublin, Ireland; Holyhead/Anglesey, Wales; and the isles of Iona, Mull and Skye in Scotland. This enchanting journey was wonderfully complemented by the expertise of David Eisenhower, grandson of President Dwight Eisenhower and University of Pennsylvania professor, as well as Celia Sandys, historian and granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill. We were also delighted with the company of David Eisenhower's charming and gracious wife, Julie Nixon Eisenhower.

Council travelers also received a special briefing in Dublin by retired Irish Minister and T.D. Tom Kitt and current Minister and T.D. Kathleen Lynch. Mr. Kitt even entertained our gathering (which included David and Julie) with a beautiful rendition of The Fields of Athenry on guitar!
