Horrific in any century.I don't want to eat meat ever again. Just don't come up with a cartoon of vegetables slicing themselves up, 'cause then I will be eating mostly air...

The post stamp frame was in the original image?

I didn't alter this bizzare image from an old French advertising trade card. The images I am uploading now are from a set of 1200 different cards I created for my project METAPHYSICAL GRAFFITI.

Each card showcases a FOUND IMAGE on the front and FOUND TEXT on the back. I didn't draw any of these. Most of the images come from VINTAGE POSTCARDS.

Each 2.375 x 3.375 inch card was laminated and finished with deckle edges. They were printed in very small editions and given away.

It's horrible but I like it because it candidly reminds us that pork=pig. Lots of people nowadays don't really seem to directly connect meat with animals.

Were it not for the fact that I have been a staunch vegetarian for over 33 years now, this image would probably have made me a "vegie" on the spot!

Rainbow Mermaid:- Yes, indeed, this is alas very true. The reason for this non-connexion is that most people in the West are urban and they never, ever come into contact with the reality of where meat actually comes from. The stark, disgusting fact is that meat is from a corpse.

Indeed. I find it strange that I seem to be unusual in my awareness. I'm a vegetarian (though, not always a very good one) because I don't really like meat, but mostly because I have a hard time with the idea of eating flesh. I don't think my experiences with animals and meat are much different from anyone's around me, yet they seem able to ignore that meat is a dead animal, until they are put in a situation where they are faced with it, and then they react strongly as if it's a terrible surprise to them. I have no problem with anyone eating meat, but I can't really understand when someone happily eats meat but also gets squeamish at the sight of a butcher's window. Not that there are so many of those to see nowadays, heh. I suppose other people might be better at letting inconveniently uncomfortable things slip out of their minds.

Yes. This is called "living in denial" (of the actual, true facts) - a lot of people just "screen out" those facts that distress, upset or sadden them. If humans did not have this ability I think a lot of us would go mad, on account of all the suffering and evil and fear in the world.

An acquaintance of mine, back in rural Sweden, was very distressed to see a dead moose lying on the back of a pick-up truck (this was in October, the hunting season) and yet SHE EATS MEAT quite happily! Her husband is a "foodie" and he is forever cooking various complicated meat dishes, which she is quite willing to eat.

It isn't just the fact that meat is the dead body of an animal; these animals are for the most part relentlessly tortured when they are reared on "factory farms" and also never even see the sun or walk on grass. They are furthermore injected with antibiotics and growth hormones and other insiduous substances, and when people eat this meat they ingest all this, secondhand.

Heh... I think I already a little mad. I certainly struggle to cope with the brutal facts of life.

People's disregard for and cruelty towards animals... makes me very sad.
