Some of these matchbox labels are full of Taoist symbolism. The bat is symbolic of happiness. The gourd -- this one has been made into a container -- is an emblem of Li Ti'eh-kuai, one of the Eight Immortals of Taosim. As such it is symbolic of longevity.
