part of "resurface", a style in progress event in the alley behind the drake hotel in toronto.
this event was particularly significant for the toronto graffiti community in light of the graffiti by-law which, in short, deems ANYTHING but corporate advertising illegal - any and all public spaces including legal walls already transformed by city/privately sponsored graffiti projects.
in order to keep the graffiti as art mural private property owners must hand over $200 to the city, and even then, the city officials have authority to constitute what is art and what is not. (WHAT?! ya, thats what i said too.) in the case that property owners do not remove the graffiti, the city fines them or buff the walls at the owner's expense.
