A CdV by The London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company featuring a photograph of soprano Christine Nilsson dating from c1870. By now it was usual for the photographer to have an advertisement on the back of the backing card on which the photo was mounted - in this case a fancy illustration showing the honours received etc.
Soprano Christine Nilsson was born in Sweden on 20th August 1843 and died there on 20th November 1921.
She made her debut during 1864 and was what would be called now days – a mega star.
While she did not make any records there are numerous photos to attest to the fact that she possessed great charm and beauty.

# In 1854 at 313 Oxford Street, London, England the 'London Stereoscope Company' came into being. It became 'The London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company' in 1859. As the name suggests its main business was stereo-views and when that fad started to fade they became involved in CdV's etc. The company closed down in 1922.
