In 2009, the Chinese Cultural Center of America erected a beautiful garden along the Des Moines River. This was one of the first major pieces of the planned "Des Moines River Walk". Since 2009, Principal, Wellmark and other companies have donated millions of dollars and labor to help build up other parts of the project. Soon, you will be able to walk a loop from one end of town to the other along the river.

The Robert D Ray Chinese Gardens were completed on August 1, 2009. It cost almost $2m to build and features this amazing Chinese Pavilion (sponsored by John Deere) as well as a number of waterfalls and rock carvings. It's beautifully lit at night, if you get a chance to visit here - I recommend sunset or later.
