A typical, polluted day in Zhengzhou, China

Zhengzhou is a regular on the top ten list of most polluted cities in China. It is a city of over nine million that just keeps growing and growing, and the bad air is a persistent problem. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people in China will die prematurely due to years of exposure to air pollution. China burns about as much coal as the rest of the world combined. China's coal burning generates so much particulate matter that it makes its way around the globe. Recent studies have shown that 25% of all particulate pollution in Los Angeles comes from China. So, all of those products that are made in China come with a massive amount of environmental pollution associated with their production.
