SFO video averages

I propped my iPod on the window and let it record for a few minutes.

Video averages do a pretty good job of removing noise, so you get a much higher practical bit depth. In the original video, the noise floor is right under perceptual black in any given frame, but in these averages you can turn up the brightness and see, for example, plenty of detail in the heavy shade under the plane.

In effect, you can use a video as a low-res but low-noise very long exposure. With typical codecs, you get a slightly blurred look (from sensor noise but also haloing artifacts) that I think of as waxy.
