Catching flying bullet
Red breasted nuthatches are swift fliers. During landing, they cross the camera field of view in my setup in less than 30 ms. The problem is that my reaction time is much longer - about 200 ms. And then the camera takes about 100 ms to respond. So, getting this picture required pulling the trigger almost exactly 300 ms before he got in front of the lens. An error of ~30 ms or more resulted in the empty frame or the bird already sitting on the perch. Difficult, but doable. The reward is this beautiful horizontal landing pose.
