Cecil - Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
This is one of the two lions (twin brothers) in a small pride that was in 'our' part of the national park. Our guide could see that they were restless. Although by no means starving, they hadn't eaten for some days and were moving steadily in the direction where they knew that they'd find antelope. Moving for a while, then resting. Intent but in no hurry.
Shortly after I took this picture, the lion disappeared silently into the grass in a direction that we were unable to follow.
Addendum: This is, of course, "Cecil". The lion famously shot and wounded by crossbow fired by American dentist Walter Palmer in July 2015 and then shot, killed, skinned and beheaded for trophies two days later. Living in a nature reserve, Cecil was completely inured to people in vehicles that didn't interfere with him or his prey. So approaching him closely was never difficult, a daily occurrence for him and something he paid no attention to.
