Winchester Cathedral

Wayneflete's lower legs. Lovely full apparelled alb. William Patten, better known as William of Wayneflete (1395-1486) came from the marshland town of Wainfleet in Lincolnshire. He was the first provost of Eton before he became bishop of Winchester in 1449. He founded Magdalen college Oxford. He is buried in a painted stone tomb in a chantry he built in the retrochoir of the cathedral next to the shrine of St Swithun.
