Lyons Bibliotheque Municipale ms 517, fol 8r
High mass from a French fifteenth century miniature. The celebrant is assisted by deacon and subdeacon who are holding elevation torches. They take some of the weight of his vestment as he elevates. Above the altar is the green textile pyx canopy. Note the use of contrasting colours, blue for the vestments, red for the frontal and green for the pyx canopy. This may be artistic licence, but probably represents common usage, prior to the adoption of uniformist colour sequences.
