Manhattan - Times Square 10

Times Square, New York, at night. A wholly different animal in the suns absence, the square takes on very different dimensions with its galactic clusters of neon and pixelated digital billboards.

With night lit limitations of the camera being used at the time and the fact that Times Square is even MORE populated after dark in the peak of tourist season, there are only a few of these shots. Only this one is really of any use. So ends the "Times Square" sequence.

We had just come out of the Schoenfeld Theatre to find massive crowds of people milling and jostling through oceans of flashing, flickering and pulsating lights. I took the opportunity to bang off a few quick ones before we decided to beat a hasty out of there due to the unbelievable crowd and also because someone had left an abandoned backpack just behind us, leaning up against a building. A woman standing next to us spotted it, asked if it was ours and after we three determined that no one near us owned it, she called the police and we took off for the 42nd Street subway, post haste.

Music Link: "Rapture" - iiO, John Creamer / Stephane K Remix. This incredible piece of club/dance music is 14 years old now, which I can scarce believe, but it is one of the single most stand-out songs from a genre of music that is often quite forgettable. In the hands of the two remix artists, Creamer and K, this song takes on a haunting, indeed, rapturous feel that moves it far beyond it's wooden and airless original.

Creamer and K heard the power and siren-like magic in Nadia Ali's spectacular voice and give the music the exotic, atmospheric setting that it truly deserves. And as moody and atmospheric as it is, it's still an incredibly solid dance piece that was at one time, something that made the hair on one's neck stand up on the dance floor.

I want to thank Sonja Parfitt for giving me the idea to use a song like this by suggesting that the image looks like a big party. Indeed it does look like a big rave or club scene. It's just missing the soundtrack.
