Sandstone Surprise at The Gap,Sydney

Dedicated to the memory of Don Ritchie who lent his support to more than 150 people who were contemplating taking their own lives at this site

The Gap...The southern headland entrance to Sydney Harbour.Whilst admiring the beautiful sandstone a cockatoo suddenly flew OUT OF THE CLIFF!It was quite an unexpected surprise! The cocky sat on this ledge for about 5 minutes before taking flight and returning to her little crevice in the rock...most unusual behaviour for a cockatoo if i'm not mistaken! The Gap is notoriously known as "THE" suicide location of Sydney as,sadly,it is reported that as many as 50 people take their own lives by jumping off it each year.A number of well publicised murders have even taken place here.So I like to think of this white cockatoo as a sort of peaceful and spiritual rememberance to these troubled souls who left the physical world at this site.
