Welcome to Austria and to the beautiful Grünsee. The cable car station at Einzingerboden takes you to the Weiss See at 2,300m. There is a large hut at the top station the Rudolfshutte. There are some good walks from here and we would think excellent views. You can either do a circular back to the Weiss See, and take the cable car down, or walk down from the Weiss See past the Tauernmoos See and the Grunsee. Grunsee is the middle station which has a self service cafe serving very good Kaiserschmerren and Germknodel. Austria is one of Europe’s premiere walking destinations. An extensive range of trails cover mountain terrain, valleys and woods, so it is no wonder walking enthusiasts have chosen Austria time and time again. Walking holidays in Austria start right from your doorstep there are 80km of walking paths, with a further 300km of scenic hiking tracks for either a leisurely stroll or an ambitious climb. Or spend a day biking in Austria, there are 480km of cycle and Mountain bike tracks. Whether you are a leisurely relaxed cyclist or an extremely fit mountain biker, you will feel at ease on the well-marked traffic free routes.
Lake Grünsee is a picturesque mountain lake amidst larch and pine forests. It’s frozen so solidly in winter that skiers, cross country skiers and hikers bustle about on the lake. A nearly flat walking path surrounds the lake. At a leisurely speed, the walk around it will take about 40 minutes. It takes its green colouring from a type of algae at the bottom of the lake.
The Grünsee is located next to the Stubachtal Tollfree Panorama Road. The Stubachtal valley is prescribed as one of the most beautiful Tauern valleys. The name Stubach goes back to stäubenden Wasser - sprinkling water. The valley has 18 lakes, 25 glaciers, 25 Alpine pastures and a total length of 18 km. In 13 sharp turns you´ll drive from Uttendorf at 804m to the Enzingerboden - 1,480m. The road was built from 1921 - 1926 and redeveloped from 1997 - 1999. When driving up to the Enzingerboden you´ll notice the many walls and rocks that were shaped by the glacier. The valley was filled with ice for many thousands of years. Along the road you´ll encounter numerous interesting cultural sights like the Wiedrechtshausen farm with a sundial dating back to the 18th century, numerous small waterfalls, wonderful panoramic views into the glacier region, a beautiful deciduous forest.
