Tropical Garden

For thousands of years gardeners have tried to grow exotic plants from totally different climatic zones such as desert cactus gardens and alpine gardens. Since the 16th century gardeners in temperate climates have often attempted to recreate the exotic beauty and mystery of a tropical landscape.

A 19th century example of this is the 'Victorian Flower Garden' beside Cobham Drive where the tropical colour is achieved with seasonal bedding and glasshouses. In this tropical garden plants are use that generally look tropical but which must still survive winter frosts.
