Bob Fisher moves a cownose ray, which was caught as bycatch off the coast of Virginia.
Virginia's fishing industry nets many cownose ray during summer months when ray migrate into the Chesapeake Bay. Those who work on the water believe they have seen more cownose ray in recent years than ever before, making them wonder whether the population has increased. However, lack of scientific data on ray populations (past or present) in the Chesapeake Bay makes it difficult to know whether the population size has changed at all.
