Portrait of the Artist as an Old Woman
While visiting the artist Sue Sparks Randolph was overwhelmed by her collections of gnomes and dolls. Her garden is vibrant with tiny statuary, her home a crazy-quilt of anthropomorhic and pint-sized faces. Given the MVM's fascination with portraiture and identity, it struck us that a database of portraits representing all Sue's companions would be an apt and beautiful portrait of Sue herself.
The pictures in this sett are not all perfect, Randolph intends to go back this winter with a light and better gear. We left out the softest photos (about 100 of her friends).
A video and 72" x 40" canvas will be crafted from these photos to create the final portrait.
