SPOTTED HYENA

Hyenas are carnivores and have some structural and behavioural similarities to dogs BUT did you know that hyenas are more closely related to cats and the mongoose than they are to dogs?

The Spotted (or laughing) Hyena is nocturnal and females are dominant over the males. Hyenas can eat up to one third of their body weight in a feeding frenzy.

Some Masai people dispose of dead members of their family by leaving their bodies for hyenas to consume.
