ON THE AIR (cd cover)
Last year, I was commissioned to paint the cover for Rich Engle’s CD cover for his first album entitled “TV GLARE.”
The painting, as can be seen, is of a large “television head” complete with humanoid features interspersed with electronics—surreal and freakish in its exaggeration, but it is not a caricature per se.
The album is about the mindlessness of “media reality” and the drooling dimwits caught up in the frenzy of its insipid vortex. No wonder the figure portrayed above seems lost, hands extended forward as if lost in the dark, but in this case—it is a blind spot of a different nature.
