Robberfly (Promachus rufipes)

Where were the robberflies this year? I can count on one hand the number I saw and they were mostly small gray ones. This guy has been waiting in the queue to be posted - he's our biggest species. I also didn't photograph any writing spiders this fall - very unusual.

 

I think this guy was perching on one of my dragonfly sticks in the lower yard.
