Saguaro Cactus Spines

The spines on saguaro reach a height of less than 2 meters, but they grow rapidly (up to a millimeter per day) and are very sharp. The spines almost always grow from the apex of the plant and then stop growing as they are moved to the side and the apex continues to grow upwards.
